Adolf Thomä Violin Bow, Hohendorf, c.1900-30

A good example by Adolf Thomä, Hohendorf, c.1900-30. Mounted in silver, with a length of 744mm and a weight of 55.8g. Light and powerful! The bow is stamped “ADOLF THOMA” and “MADE IN GERMANY” on the handle.

Thomä is a well-known family name for German bowmaking – This started with Hermann, father to Adolf. Adolf had two sons, Albert, and Arthur who was especially regarded in bowmaking.

This bow features clean work throughout and is quite typical in the way of German bowmaking of this time. For a light bow, the pernambuco wood used is strong, and produces a tone which is bright and clear. With a more-defined articulation, this bow would pair especially nicely with a violin with a broad and warm tone.

The bow is in good condition and presentation.
