Andreas Morelli Violin Bow, Markneukirchen, c.1920-30
This is a stunning Andreas Morelli bow from the Karl Herrmann workshop, Markneukirchen, c.1920-30. Mounted in silver, with a length of 748mm and a weight of 60.9g. It bears the stamp *ANDREAS MORELLI* on the handle.
Karl Herrmann was a pupil of Herman Dolling, and became active from 1920 – Andreas Morelli is the pseudonym that Herrmann used for violins & bows.
I’ve been using this bow myself as I’m quite a fan of both the sound and making. It features pernambuco with a ruby-like chatoyance which I’ve seen on top French bows like Thomassin. There’s clear influence of French traits in the carving of this head, and it flows quite nicely. The bow is generally quite graceful in its making, and there’s a extra piece of pearl on the frog heel which quite literally glows.
The bow is in excellent condition and presentation. It has received a new thumb leather and silver winding.
