Condition Reports
I offer formal condition reports for violins, violas etc.
These are most applicable for anyone wishing to sell a fine/professional instrument, and if they have a history of repairs.
When applicable, I’m happy to do simple reports,
My own condition reports for higher-value instruments include:
- Studio photographs taken.
- Each part of the instrument is carefully inspected, both internally and externally. Any repairs/ damage are illustrated and colour-coded.
- Written notes to accompany these, and to summarise the overall condition of each part.
- Primary instrument measurements taken.
My work in lutherie helps me to recognise more complex / disguised repairs, and understand the contexts for them
These condition reports are a foundation for any sale built on transparency, which is what I wish for my own.
