Marc Laberte Violin Bow, Mirecourt, c.1920-50

This is a refined French violin bow by the Marc Laberte workshop in Mirecourt, c.1920-50. This bow is mounted in silver, with a length of 744mm and weight of 60.5g. It plays well and was owned by a prominent player in a top London orchestra.

Marc Laberte inherited the family firm and workshop, merging it with Fournier Magnié in 1920. An expert and collector in his own right, he helped developed the firm to become one of the most prolific in France for instruments and bows, employing hundreds of makers to produce these in a wide range of qualities.

This bow has many lovely features, including luminous golden-brown pernambuco and extremely clean ebony and silverwork. The head shaping is very elegant, and the darker mark you see is a natural growth of no harm in the wood.

This bow is in good condition, with no crack repairs to the head, stick, and frog.
