Rene Bernardel Violin, Mirecourt, 1936
This is definitively one of the finest Rene Bernardel violins. Based well on a Stradivari model, it has a LOB of 357mm. It’s labelled internally “Rene Bernardel, Luthier, No.111 Annee 1936 Serie 4882 Fecit Paris”, also signed.
The serie number via historical catalogues indicates that this is highest quality. The Rene Bernardel workshop was headed by Albert Deblaye, and his characteristic work traits can be seen in this violin. The woodwork is both precise and elegant, especially the scroll.
This violin is very well-made in consideration for sound – Thanks to this as well as soundpost exploration, this violin has a darker warm and open tone. The response is extremely balanced and easy to play on, allowing little resistance for what you put into the violin.
This violin is entirely appropriate for professional playing, both soloist or orchestral. The setup standard is as high as possible, having been given things such as a professional bridge, fingerboard/nut reshaping, new French-style pegs, a weight-controlled tailpiece, and soundpost fitting with adjustments.
The violin is in near-mint condition – This antiqued varnish shading is original. The body has never been opened, there are no cracks, and the violin bears its original fingerboard, nut, and saddle. We still have the original pegs to be given to the next owner!
