Violin Bow by Keith Sleeman, England, 2024
This is another Keith Sleeman bow is looking for its first owner! Mounted in silver, with a length of 746.5mm and a weight of 60.8g. I absolutely love this bow! This is very attractive work, featuring deep-red pernambuco, and demonstrating nice simplicity with a one-piece button. The lines of the head flow so naturally, and it is paired with a silver-faceplate.
Like the other Sleeman bow…this violin bow has a balanced reponse that draws both a deep tone from the strings, as well as crisply articulating vertical action such as spiccato/staccato. The weight is very evenly distributed with no weak spots anywhere – and in fact the top third of the stick feels reinforced with more strength than most bows!
Keith Sleeman has been making bows for more than 40 years now, having started at the age of 16 and later trained under the W.E. Hill & Sons maker Malcolm Taylor.
Keith’s bows are inspired by the classic French masters, and it’s lovely to see this carried into this bow. He now especially focuses in tonal optimisation of bows via recambering. His bows are owned by soloists such as Mischa Maisky as well as top-orchestral players in the London Philharmonic and Boston Symphony Orchestras.
