15 1/4″ Viola, Germany, c.1910

This is a 15 1/4″ (38.7cm) viola I’ve had great pleasure in preparing for sale. It’s made in Germany c.1910, most likely Saxony or possibly then-neighbouring Bohemia. It bears a Stradivarius label model internally. I’ve seen identical instruments in the past with the specific workshop known, so we’d be able to identify this again in the future.

The viola has received setup work to be fully suitable for professional playing – The neck and fingerboard have been resized for good comfort, and the fingerboard has been resurfaced for full life. New heart-model pegs have been fitted. The new bridge is also professional quality, I’m very happy with the woodworking and consideration for sound.

The tone of this viola is healthily open/resonant, dark and rich. After soundpost work to understand this instrument best, you’re able to sink into both the lowest and highest registers nicely. It’s a pleasure to play on!

I love the scroll on this, it’s full of life. This viola is in excellent condition with no crack repairs.
