Violin by JTL, Mirecourt, c.1910

This is a nice representative example of work from the French Jerome Thibouville Lamy firm. Based on a Stradivari body outline, and with a back length of 360mm.

The violin features a golden-red varnish typical of JTL and other Mirecourt violins, and I’m fan of features such as this violin’s well-shaped corners.

The violin is in excellent preservation, with no crack repairs. It bears it’s original fingerboard and nut, and the new overall setup is of high standard- including a professional bridge and pegs fitted.

Thanks to sound adjustment work, the tone is incredibly warm and deep, with a very balanced response to allow easy playing. It’s currently perfect for orchestral playing, but is a versatile instrument and can accomodate soloistic playing with higher-tension strings.
