A French Violin, Mirecourt, c.1870-80
This is a Mirecourt French violin made c.1870-80. The violin is fullsize, with a length of back of 358mm.
A few things I quite like in particular about this violin, is the quality of the spruce used for the front, the free-flowing and broad carving of the scroll, and the back as a whole with the neat work given to it’s one-piece figured maple. This violin is very typical of Mirecourt for it’s time.
The violin has an attractive darker/warm and defined sound, and its response across the strings makes it quite nice to play on.
The setup has been ensured to be of professional standard throughout. This work includes correct shaping of the neck, original fingerboard & nut, new heart pegs fitted, and a new bridge & post cut for it. The violin has a few minor repairs and has been brought back to great presentation overall!
