Violin Bow, Markneukirchen, c.1950
This is a German violin bow that I really love for both its making and playing qualities! Silver-mounted, with a length of 743mm and a weight of 57.9g.
This bow is quite typical of the high quality trade making from Markneukirchen, featuring a well-shaped head and clean working of the frog’s ebony and silver parts. The frog’s bottom edges has a very specific rounding-over, and it’ll be great if this points to a maker’s name in the future.
The bow draws a very warm blended and strong tone, and is really nice for articulation also. I’ve been using it a lot recently for sound-testing instruments.
The condition and presentation is excellent, with no repairs and just light surface wear from use/age. The bow has been given a new silver winding and thumb leather.
