Viola by John F. Lott II, London, c.1850
A fine viola by the famous copyist and one of the best English makers of the 1800’s, John Frederick Lott II (also informally called Jack Lott). This instrument is a recreation of an original Alessandro Gagliano viola that he recut the soundholes and made a new scroll for, to pass on as a Guarneri “del” Gesu viola. That same viola was also in fact sold on by J.B. Vuillaume as an original Guarneri viola.
The length of back is 42cm. This viola has been authenticated by Beare Violins, 2025.
