Violin Bow by Vladimir Havlik, Germany, c.1980-2000 – Sartory Model
This is a stunning modern Sartory-model violin bow by Vladimir Havlik, made in Bubenreuth between c.1980-2000. The bow is silver-mounted with a length of 743mm, and weight of 64.7g. The bow is stamped “Modell”, “E. Sartory A Paris”, and “V. HAVLIK” on the handle.
I love many aspects of this bow’s making, including the extremely clean-detailed silverwork and the faithful following of a Sartory style head. This is accompanied by the use of luminous red-brown pernambuco.
Vladimir Havlik is retired now but belonged to the Bayern/Bubenreuth community of bowmakers, a region rich in instrument heritage mainly since after WW2. Still active contemporaries from the area include Richard Grünke, Neudorfer, Seifert, and Riedl.
This bow is absolutely great for a professional player. It has a nice balance in the hand, and the tonal colour is dark and complex, with a great depth and strong core. The sound is wide and resonant, yet still with good articulation and clarity. Good projection. It can take a lot of heavy playing, so there’s no issues with resistance.
This violin bow is in excellent presentation and has been given a silver winding and thumb leather by London Bow Rehairs
